BASF Gardobond, as used in industry
  • ✓ Hub faces and lug seats masked
So your wheels torque down safely

What makes the difference on a wheel

Four freshly coated wheels look the same on the day you pick them up. The difference shows after a winter of road salt, brake heat and car washes. It comes down to the steps you can no longer see once the wheel is done, and those are the first ones a very low price skips.

Step At Chromatique What we often see elsewhere
Old finish Full media blasting, down to bare metal New colour sprayed over old paint and corrosion
Pretreatment Ardrox degreaser, rinse, then Gardobond zirconium conversion (BASF) A simple wash, or a basic phosphate
Masking Hub face and lug seats protected, on every wheel Powder in the lug seats, scraped off at mounting
Equipment Gema and Carlisle guns, industrial GFS oven A small booth and a makeshift oven
Quality check Wheel-by-wheel inspection, then each wheel packed individually Wheels handed back uninspected, flaws found at mounting
Commitment 5-business-day turnaround and a 12-month written warranty Vague timelines and warranties, rarely in writing

All the details

Included with every service +
  • Chemical cleaning. Ardrox degreaser, then a rinse, to remove brake dust, oils and cleaner residue.
  • Zirconium pretreatment. A Gardobond conversion layer that bonds the powder to the metal and slows corrosion under the finish.
  • Masked mating surfaces. The hub face and lug seats stay bare metal, so the wheels torque down to spec.
  • Booth application with electrostatic guns, for an even coat right into the spokes and the barrel.
  • Oven cure. The powder melts, flows and hardens into a continuous film, thicker and tougher than liquid paint.
  • Wheel-by-wheel inspection, then each wheel packed individually.
  • 12-month written warranty on the adhesion of our finish.
Which service should I choose? +
  • Paint only. Chemical cleaning, pretreatment, masking, one coat of colour and an oven cure. For wheels that are already bare metal, or whose current finish is intact: no chipping, no corrosion and no bubbles. The new colour is applied over that finish.
  • Stripping - Paint. Everything above, plus full media blasting. Old paint, the factory clear coat and corrosion are removed, not covered. Our recommendation for wheels that have already been through a few winters.
  • Stripping - Paint - Clear Coat. Our complete service. A second, clear coat adds depth, protects the colour from salt, cleaners and UV, and makes the wheels easier to clean. Strongly recommended with metallic, candy and gloss finishes.

Not sure? Choose stripping. If a wheel ordered as "Paint only" needs it, we let you know before we start.

Sizes and colours +
  • 17" and under. The starting price.
  • 18" and over. More surface to prepare and coat. We cannot strip wheels larger than 20": for those, only the "Paint only" option is available.
  • Basic colours: black, silver or white. The three most requested shades, always in stock.
  • Premium colours: custom, your choice. Any shade from the catalogues of Prismatic Powders, TIGER Coatings and our other suppliers: solid, metallic, transparent "candy", textured, or matched to your vehicle. We confirm the colour with you before we start.

How it works +
  1. Choose your service, size and colour range, then book your spot.
  2. Drop off your wheels at the Anjou shop, without tires, valves, pressure sensors or balance weights.
  3. We inspect them on arrival and confirm the final price based on their actual condition, before we start.
  4. We do the work in 5 business days, our standard turnaround.
  5. You pick up your wheels, individually packed and ready to be mounted.
Warranty and care +

We guarantee the adhesion of our finish in writing for 12 months. To keep it looking its best:

  • Wash your wheels with water and mild soap, especially in winter.
  • Avoid acid wheel cleaners, solvents and hard brushes.
  • At a pressure wash, keep the wand at a distance from the finish.

More tips in our article Maintaining a powder coated surface. Full conditions are in our terms of service.

Good to know +
  • The final price is confirmed when we receive the wheels, based on their actual condition.
  • Cracked, bent or previously welded wheels are assessed on arrival.
  • Multi-piece wheels and three-coat finishes are quoted separately.
